Singapore on a budget – The top 10 free experiences you should’nt miss!

If you ask any local or anyone who have been to singapore, they might tell you nothing is free in singapore. Except for the cheap flights, everything else is pretty costly.

But in my recent visit to singapore, I realized there are quite a lot of things that are absolutely free.

1. Wonder full Light and Laser show

Immerse yourself in Wonder Full, a stunning showpiece of visual effects. For 13 electrifying minutes, sit back and enjoy an amazing convergence of light, music and sound.

You can experience this show in two different ways. One, from the event plaza, waterfront promenade and the other view from Merlion park. I experienced the show from both places and I loved the view from Merlion park. The view from event plaza is somewhat similar to the show ‘wings of time’ or it’s earlier version ‘song of the seas’ in sentosa. This show is available everyday at 8 pm and 9.30 pm.

2. Garden Rhapsody 

Garden Rhapsody is a Light and laser show in super tree grove, gardens by the bay at 7.45 pm everyday.

3. Vivo city

 Skypark

Whether you are looking for retail therapy or thinking of some refreshing entertainment for kids, you will find all that in vivo city.  With an open air playground and the rooftop water feature in the skypark, this shopping mall isn’t just a shopping mall. It is infact the  largest lifestyle hub in town.

4. Sentosa 

All the 18 attractions in sentosa are costly but there are 3 beaches ( Siloso, Tanjong and Palawan ) inside sentosa which is absolutely free.

Siloso is Singapore’s hippest beach. You can try your hand at volley ball, skim – boarding or kayaking, as well as cycling, rollerblading and other exciting beach activities. After dark, Siloso really comes alive, with parties, music, lively bars and restaurants celebrating the beach lifestyle long into the night.

Singapore’s happiest family beach, Palawan boasts interesting shops and eateries that are a favourite with adults and children alike. Whatever you decide to do, you are bound to have fun at this family-friendly beach.

Tanjong Beach is a favourite with guests who treasure its tranquility and solitude.

Here, you can while away the hours with the sun, a favourite book and a gentle breeze for company. This beautiful stretch of beach gets especially romantic by night, with the twinkling lights of nearby ships providing a magical backdrop.

5. Clarke quay

Sit on the banks of the river at Clarke Quay at night, grab an ice cream and drink, and watch the reverse bungy and sling shot rides!

6. Gardens by the bay

Though the cooled observatories ( flower dome and cloud dome) have admission fee, it is totally free to enjoy the garden. Never miss a chance to see the super tree grove and the dragonfly lake.

Even if you are short of cash or not in a mood for shopping, it will be an amazing experience to walk through the orchard road, Little India and China town. It will surely be a walk to remember!

8. Botanical garden

Singapore’s botanical garden is not just a treasure trove for plant lovers,  it is the favourite recreation destination for both the locals and tourists.  You can find the locals jogging,  eating or just lazing around during weekends.

9. Merlion park

Make sure you don’t miss the chance to pose with the Merlion – the national icon of Singapore

10. Southern ridges trail

The trail consists of four parks stretching across the western half of Singapore, with impressive bridges allowing pedestrians to cross busy highways. It is also one of the best spots in Singapore to catch panoramic views of the city, harbour and the Southern Islands.

The trail is best visited early in the morning before it gets hot, or late in the afternoon after 5 PM. The sunset from the bridges and other viewpoints can be stunning.
